About

Cleaning needed a ✨ glow-up ✨
...so we made one.

Lora here, Founder of The Tidy People. I originally founded The Tidy People in 2008 as a cleaning service and trained over a hundred employees with a proven cleaning system that I developed from scratch.

Every few weeks I would pop my head in at a local janitorial store and ask them a million questions...annoying the hell out of them, of course ;) Countless weekends of developing employee handbooks, trial and error of hundreds of products + tools, and testing cleaning methods on thousands of surfaces. I kept refining. Chiseling my methods down to be simple, yet effective. Until I finally landed on what I believe to be one of the best cleaning systems there are.

This cleaning system only uses 7 products to clean the whole house. And it doesn’t need harsh chemicals to produce results. Not 10, not 20. 7 products. Together, my team and I cleaned thousands of homes for 15 years before I launched this refillable cleaning product line. And now, you can buy 5 of those products. The other 2 products are common household ingredients that I'm 99% sure you already have on hand.

I’m incredibly fascinated with how people live, their daily habits, routines, and rituals. While everybody is uniquely different in their approach to cleaning and tidying, I know one thing to be true:

Cleaning is a relationship. It’s a practice that never really ends. We have two choices...

(1) Complain about it, avoid it, and get really frustrated with this fact, OR,

(2) Be in relationship with our cleaning practice. Find ways to make it a ritual.

Just as we maintain other aspects of our lives — brushing our teeth, eating, sleeping (you know, the basics), cleaning too is a necessity.

But why not make it fun, simple, and have a process that's easy to follow?

It sure does make it a whole lot easier when you have a clear,  easy to use system down.

I’ve tested countless tools, techniques, and products over the years — so that you don’t have to. I've not only developed an effective and efficient cleaning system, but it makes cleaning fun, in my opinion ;)

As someone who cleans on a regular basis, with PCOS, I’ve prioritized the use of eco friendly, non-toxic, non-hormone disrupting ingredients. When presented with the right products, tools, and methods, it’s really a no-brainer to clean with clean-ingredients.

Personally, I was shocked to find out that…

  • Manygreen cleaningproducts lack proper disclosure of a full ingredient list and are still using single use plastics. There’s some major brands trusted by the common household that are greenwashing.

    1
  • Chemical cleaners can cause serious side effects; burns, respiratory issues, hormone disruption, skin irritation, allergies, asthma, etc. Janitors, housekeepers, and homemakers are at high risk.

    2
  • The word “fragrance” is an umbrella term that encompasses a list of ingredients in cleaning & beauty products that can include over 3,059 materials - some harmful to our health and the environment.

    3
  • Manufacturing conventional cleaners consumes 6.2 billion lbs of chemicals and 30 million trees a year. Using chemical cleaners greatly contributes to indoor air pollution. Yikes - totally unnecessary!

Unlike most cleaning products...it wasn't built in a boardroom. It was built with real cleaning experience.

The Tidy People Over The Years

  • Lora launches Ergo Errands from her parents home after losing her job in graphic design as a post-college grad in the 2008 recession. Ergo Errands was a task-rabbit-esque, amazon delivery, uber, personal assistant, and cleaning service (that pre-dated most of these services).

  • Cleaning services are in high demand. Lora hires her first employee and starts developing a cleaning training program.

  • Lora grows her team to 15 people and together, they go on to clean thousands of homes.

  • Ergo Errands is rebranded to The Tidy People.

  • The Tidy People refillable cleaning product line launches.

  • In a post-pandemic era, The Tidy People cleaning service closes its doors after an employee shortage recession hits Portland, OR.

  • The Tidy People is stocked in its first few retail stores.
